Panama
Panama's biodiversity is staggering. It boasts the largest number bird species in Central America (940). There are 218 mammal species, 226 species of reptiles, 124 amphibian species, and 125 animal species unique to Panama –not found anywhere else in the world.
Panama has over 10,000 species of plants, including the most beautiful orchid species (1,200 varieties), 678 fern species, and 1,500 species of trees (including some of best teak forests anywhere in the world).
Panama has 1,518 islands surrounding the mainland from coast to coast. These provide opportunities for exploration with a small boat and a guide. Most of these islands are uninhabited, except for the wildlife, birds, reptiles, and amphibian life.
Boquete
Boquete is located only 30 minutes from David which is now offering international flights from the U.S. It is situated in Chiriqui providence and nestled at the foot of Volcan Baru (the tallest peak in Panama at 11,500 feet) surrounded by the finest coffee farms in the world (Boquete Panama coffee has been awarded the best coffee in the world for the last two years). It is known for its cool, fresh climate and its unbelievable natural setting nestled in the craggy mountain valley, with the sparkling Rio Caldera mountain stream that run through it. Unique to the area, locals have neither heat nor air conditioning because of the mild climate which can get cool in the evening in the fifties on a cold night and in the mid to high eighties in the heat of the day.
Boquete was founded in 1911. In Spanish, the word “Boquete” means a gap or opening. Boquete also represent the concept of bouquet because it presents some of the most beautiful flora and fauna seen anywhere in the world. The most spectacular of all are the array of orchids that are replete all over the area.
